About Debbie & World Scenic Travels

Spread the word
I have travelled solo around the world. In 2020, during the start of the pandemic, I started to explore my local travel scene more. Here’s my story.
–Being locked down in Malaysia, I started exploring and traveling around my beloved home base, Malaysia, when the interstate borders were still open. That’s when I began to appreciate the beauty of what local travel has to offer.
After being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), I was experimenting with many methods to cope with my condition without relying too much on medication. There was a shortage of meds at that time–which led me to search for an alternative remedy that won’t break my bank.
Through research and more readings, I find that nature helps me calm my mind and regulate my emotions. Then onwards, I make it a habit to return to Earth’s wonders and make it my mission to share my experience with others. In a way, sharing is cathartic for me, and I hope that someone would benefit my experiences as much as I hope for a resource like this in the past.
My global exploration still continues even though I learn to appreciate my local gems (Truly Malaysian!) Nowadays, I am based in Malaysia as I realized I like having a base to travel to-and-fro. This lifestyle wasn’t the same when I was living the hustler life as a digital nomad. Eventually, I was burned out.
On my road to burnout recovery, I discovered slow travel. I started adopting a minimalistic life and love the way I travel now. Even with shorter breaks (less than 2 weeks), I could still slowly travel and enjoy a relaxed pace of exploration. I avoid bustling cities and gravitate towards suburbs and outskirts instead. With this blog, I hope to share my realistic ups and downs during these trips.
And in my slow travel itineraries, you will notice a lot of walking and hiking in the city and wild, because being close to nature still helps with my sanity.
I also get most excited when I explore the local towns and scenes after each walk/hike. If you have read some of my experiences, you’d have noticed that I included a list of nearby retreats and activities.
What better feeling than to reward yourself with a bowl of cendol or hot ramen after a great stroll! Oh how I could just plonk into a comfy homestay for the night too!
So whether it’s a weekend getaway with family or outdoor adventures with friends, I continue to share my hiking, camping, and slow travel experiences–locally or globally and I’m excited to see where my life takes me.
